Start your New Years on a healthy foot with these five fabulous lunch spots in San Francisco.

Forget the all-you-can-eat and drink “hangover” brunch; your healthy new year’s resolution starts here and now.  We’ve picked out our favorite lunch spots that will get your day started on a light and happy note – not only on New Year’s Day – make that every day!

1. The Plant Cafe Organic

Lunch until 3 p.m.

With a name like Plant Cafe Organic, you can’t go wrong!  Happily, the cuisine lives up to its name and we think this is the perfect choice to start the New Year! The lunch menu is filled with healthy delights like the Roasted Beet Salad, Grilled Vegetable Sandwich and the Plant Burter. No matter what you choose, rest assure that your choice will be guilt-free.



2.  Trace

Brunch until 2pm

If you’re looking for a healthy brunch (versus a full lunch) to start the new year, then Trace should be top of mind.  Yes, it is located inside of the W Hotel, but don’t be fooled by the glitzy exterior; Trace is all about fresh, farm-to-table cuisine in a newly designed, gorgeous ambiance. Whole Oat Groats, Scrambled Egg Whites, House-made Granola and Quiche Alsacienne are standouts for the on-the-go, health-conscious foodie.


3.  Source SF

Lunch until 4 p.m.

Source is on the top of our list for its diverse selection of healthy eats.  It’s a casual kinda place, off the beaten-path, open 7 days a week.  You may get lost in such a large menu, but a few super healthy standouts include the Live Lettuce Tacos, Portobello Salad and the Vegan Spinach artichoke Fondue with pita bread…and those are just the appetizers!  Our recommendation:  The food keeps very well overnight so no harm in ordering a couple of sides to go.


4.  Bluestem Brasserie

Lunch until 3 p.m.

At first glance, you may not equate the word “healthy” with Bluestem.  But trust us when we tell you that there are several healthy gems on this menu. When it comes to servicing their health-conscious clientele, Bluestem listens and know how to please.  Arugula and Mustard Gem Salad, Brown Butter Root Vegetables and Cauliflower on the side are just a few of the fantastic options to keep it light.  And while you’re downtown, why not take a walk around and enjoy the city on this first day of the new year!


5.  MKT

Lunch until 2:30pm

When it comes to brunch and lunch, MKT gets a solid five stars.  Whether you choose MKT’s weekend brunch or weekday lunch option, daytime cuisine is a delightfully delicious treat for a the New Year.  The lunch menu includes healthy choices like tomato soup, Margherita flat bread and the summer squash panini, so you’ll be able to enjoy a thorough meal while watching the calories.
