Napa is certainly well-known for its wine with so many amazing vineyards – some of them centuries old – plus many newcomers each year. But, did you know that Napa makes gin? I sure had no idea. Loch & Union is a Napa-based distillery – and a relatively new player on the California spirits market – that is dedicated to creating the highest-quality spirits crafted for the connoisseur, yet also approachable by the casual spirits drinker.
It was a pleasant surprise to be included in a beautifully curated dinner at Napa Palisades hosted by Loch & Union Distilling. The crowd of tastemakers included local press, social media influencers among many discerning patrons.
The six-course menu featured an exclusive taste of Loch & Union’s American Dry Gin, Barley Gin and gin-based cocktail creations, alongside elevated American classic food pairings by Chef Tim Brown. Amazing cocktails were prepared from exquisite Loch & Union products, and personally presented by Colin Baker, their Lead Distiller, paired with terrific dishes such as antelope carpaccio and roasted monk fish, baked oysters and wild boar chops. And for desert? Gin and tonic cupcakes, of course! I was definitely sold!
The Loch & Union Distilling team has spent the past 3 years perfecting their spirits using the finest ingredients, one-of-a-kind CARL triple-pot stills and an array of expertise in distilling. Since debuting its spirits locally in Napa Valley in March of this year and recently announcing their national launch, Loch & Union Distilling has received a number of awards and accolades, including California Distillery of the Year by New York International Spirits Competition and a Double Gold Medal by San Diego Spirits Festival International Competition.
Loch & Union Distilling is launching its American Dry Gin, starting with a statewide debut in California, as well as online nationwide. Initial distribution began locally in March with a focus on select Napa County establishments. Loch & Union is now extending its reach – beginning with the Greater Los Angeles area – in partnership with cocktail bars, restaurants, hotels and other venues. The brand will continue expanding distribution and availability across the country. With retail locations for Loch & Union Distilling coming up soon, I will make sure to add them to my regular Napa destinations, and so should everyone else!
