Home Cuisine You’re Invited to Celebrate Summer with Materra Cunat Family Vineyards
Materra-Cunat Family Vineyards Grand Tasting Room

A hidden gem of Napa Valley, the quiet sophistication of Materra Cunat Family Vineyards is an absolute must-do on your next trip to Napa.

Brian Cunat, his wife Miki and their two children have been making delicious wines since 2007, the year they launched the Materra label.  Inheriting a love of farming and the outdoors from his father Dean, Brian Cunat’s dream for the 50-acre Oak Knoll district property was always to create extraordinary wines, showcasing the best of what the Napa Valley has to offer. Their efforts have paid off, as the Cunat’s took a region traditionally known for producing Merlot and planted to include high quality varietals of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viogner.

In addition to producing award-winning wine, the estate’s stunning and ultra-modern tasting facility opened in 2015, and features with outdoor patio, a room for custom crush clients and a number of specialty tasting options and tour packages.

Each Materra wine is a perfect expression of the land, the grapes, the passion the Cunat family has invested in each bottle and the consistent quality delivered by the growing conditions and terroir of the Napa Valley.

If red wine is your speed, be on the lookout for the 2015 1856 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is scheduled to be released later this season. A truly exceptional wine made with grapes from the Oak Knoll Ranch, 1856 is aged for 20 months in French Oak and has a full-bodied flavor profile with initial notes of cassis and Bing cherry and velvety finish with hints of chocolate and caramel.

If you’re wondering how the name 1856 came about, Captain Joseph W. Osborne, a New England sea captain and horticulturist, brought the first European grape vines to Napa Valley and planted them at his Oak Knoll ranch.  In 1856, the California Agricultural Society named Oak Knoll Ranch the best of all California farms. In celebration of this historic achievement, the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon was crowned with the name, “1856”.

With that being said, if you’d rather enjoy Materra in the comfort of your home, they have a selection of signature whites, including the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc, 2017 Viognier, and 2016 Reserve Chardonnay, each a perfect pick for the summer season.  Whether you’re throwing an outdoor party, relaxing on your roof deck, or taking a trip to Napa, Brian and the entire Cunat family look forward to sharing their dreams with you over a glass of Materra.
