Ahhhhh, Napa, we just love you more and more. Yes, the downtown area is modernizing in the blink of an eye, but you gotta love it. Every new edition to the once sleepy downtown beat is like a breath of Californi-fied fresh air.
Atlas Social is one such example that we can only describe as California-cool. The new eatery opened on Jan. 7, on First Street in downtown Napa. Owners Michael and Christina Gyetvan are also the proprietors of Azzurro Pizzeria & Enoteca and Norman Rose Tavern in downtown Napa. Atlas Social features shared dining flavors from around the world with a focus on small plates inspired by seasonal products from Northern California. The restaurant was designed and created by architect and designer Juancarlos Fernandez of Signum Architecture.
Let’s see, how would we describe our experience? It’s like walking into a really hip, laid-back, California-cool kind of eatery. Pretty happening inside, kind of like the Napa version of Nopa and good vibes all around. Nothing too crazy or over-the-top; nothing too flashy or gaudy; this is a tastefully designed eatery that is breathing new life into the city.
Did we mention that we could literally eat (and drink) here every day, all day? And how convenient – and a perfect thought – as Atlas Social just opened up lunch service. On our list of highlights: Ricotta Gnocchi – no heaviness whatsoever, very light and fluffy; Vegetable tempura – light and crispy, Herb Leaf Fries with Meyer Lemon Aioli – a totally refreshing take on fries; and Cauliflower steak – no, it’s not a real steak. It’s a yummified veggie version made from seared cauliflower.
For dessert…drumroll please….pot de creme is a mini piece of heaven. Marsala-marinated cherries make for a delightful finish. Add all of that to an absolutely stellar wine list and it is all good and good. Such a great spot to sit outside, enjoy a glass of wine, some great food, and mix and mingle with folks in the area.
