Opera enthusiasts gathered at the War Memorial Opera hall on September 8th to celebrate the San Francisco Opera Opening Night, marking it’s 95th season. Vibrantly colored gowns ruled the red carpet entrance this year, with whimsical ruffles, beautifully beaded details and statement silhouettes far as the eye could see. The City’s most fashionable social crowd was present, including Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and Sonya Molodetskaya, Gordon Getty, Carolyn Chang and Komal Shah. The night began with a festive pre-reception where guests sipped on champagne and cocktails while socializing and taking photos.
The evening began with the premiere benefit gala, Opera Ball 2017, chaired by San Francisco Opera Guild’s Courtney Labe and Maryam Muduroglu, and designed by renowned event stylist, J. Riccardo Benavides.
The highlight of the evening was a memorable performance of Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot- a lively three act opera by famed Italian composer Giacomo Puccini and the perfect choice to kick-off the current season. Following the conclusion of the opera, Music Director Nicola Luisotti, who conducted the evening’s performance, was awarded the San Francisco Opera Medal. The festivities then continued well into the night with dancing, more champagne and further celebration in honor of the new opera season.
