The Warfield Theatre transformed into a beacon of light, love and legends for the Glide Annual Holiday Jam on December 4. Within minutes of opening, the theatre became a packed-house for the annual celebration that draws support from the local community and beyond to raise funds for Mo’s kitchen and Glide’s programs.
This year, Glide founders Reverend Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani were joined by honorary co-chairs The Honorable Willie L. Joan Baez, the Grammy Award-winning musical force who inspired Bob Dylan and countless others; Rita Moreno, one of the few Americans to ever win an Oscar, Grammy, Tony and Emmy; Paula West, a Bay Area favorite; Chinaka Hodge, poet and educator, playwright and screenwriter; and Dwayne Wiggins, the musician best known from R&B Group Tony, Toni, Tone’, took the stage alongside the Glide Ensemble to perform their greatest hits.
Following the performances was a post concert reception with hors d’oeuvres and libations from some of the Bay Area’s finest restaurants and beverage companies. The Glide Annual Holiday Festival raised more than $1.5 million for Glide’s programs and Mo’s Kitchen, which serves three meals a day to San Francisco’s poorest residents; that’s 850,000 meals each year!
