For over 80 years, GLIDE has been a spiritual home and refuge for people from many diverse backgrounds and spiritual traditions, as well as a provider of services to the people of the Tenderloin and San Francisco. For the 7th consecutive year, The GLIDE Legacy Gala has raised funds for programs of the GLIDE Foundation so that GLIDE can continue to provide comprehensive services to the poor and marginalized in the San Francisco community.
On August 13th, the 7th annual GLIDE Legacy gala welcomed over 1,000 guests, who celebrated the beloved organizations and learned how GLIDE is making an impact. Hosted by the GLIDE Legacy Committee, with Rev. Cecil Williams, Janice Mirikitani and the GLIDE family, the event honored three luminaries with the 2016 Legacy Awards. Honorees were recognized for their social impact on the San Francisco Community and their commitment to Glide.
This year’s gala awarded Felicia Horowitz, philanthropist and human rights advocate with the Janice Mirikitani Award; Van Jones, President & Co-Founder of Dream Corps and CNN Political Contributor with the Reverend Cecil Williams Award (accepted on Jones’ behalf by Matt Haney); and Sarah Shourd, author, educator, prisoner rights advocate with the Community Hero Award.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed musical performances from the internationally renowned GLIDE Ensemble and the Change Band under the musical direction of Clifford Coulter and Vernon Bush and beats from DJ KingMost. The Glide Legacy Gala is now the most established and well-attended young professional gala in San Francisco.
